Holly Daze

Some say the modern celebration of Christmas traces back to a novella published in December 1843. The book was an "overnight success" and revived its author's flagging career. People began to copy his fictional characters' behaviors. One thing led to another, and here we are.

Friends of the Library's "Avenue of Trees" is already taking shape in the library. The "official" set up days are on the calendar for the weekend after Thanksgiving. But the committee in charge of the project wants to be sure to have everything in hand, and so has gotten an early start.

One tree features alphabet letters cut with the library's die cutter.

Another has blue-toned copies of senior photos from the Polk High School Class of 1948.

Many new book displays & all "top of the low shelves" picture book displays are set aside for the next five weeks. So come in to the library to admire the trees. And then look a little further for the books and media that temporarily fade into background. If you've already reached holiday burn-out, relax with a diversionary read.
