Kilgore Memorial Library's collection of
J.A. Parks Music Company materials grew a bit recently with the addition of
Girls' Three-Part Choruses, and the penciled comment of an 1889-1890 student in a high school science text book. The music book came to us as a result of a conversation noted in
Going Home a few weeks ago.
| | The penciled note was found entirely by while thumbing through some old books donated for the upcoming Friends of the Library's book sale. |
The comment may help us imagine the life of a 19th Century high school student -- and how could we play "history detective" to see how her life unfolded? | | |
1st -- Someone other than Jessie wrote the comment about Prof. Parks -- note the difference in the handwriting.
 | | The 1891-1892 York City Directory lists Jessie Conaway as a student, and her father John B. Conaway as a physician, residing at 640 E. 6th. The 1903 York High School annual notes she graduated in the class of 1891. |
