Good is Subjective

old_books "Give 'em WHAT's GOOD" ~~~ "Give 'em WHAT THEY WANT"

Why can't those phrases be synonymous?

Some wonderful (according to reviewers, etc.) but unused (not checked out in the last 3 years) materials are leaving the collection in the upcoming Friends of the Library's book sale. Eisenhower's memoirs, old "standard histories," volumes from the "Rivers of America," Catton's Civil War histories ---
But shelf space is inelastic, and new materials have to go somewhere.

Large research libraries build compact storage units to hang on to old stuff (I could digress about the 1920's Master's Thesis on suitability of various steel alloys for hand tools I studied at M.I.T. a couple of years ago..) but your garden variety public library does not have that option.

So farewell Ike, ta-ta Mr. Halberstam, au revoir Mr. Catton.
