Long Term Projects and Short Term Goals

Every institution has long term, medium term, and short term efforts underway. The longest term effort for Kilgore Memorial Library is facilities review -- at what point does the current facility need to be remodelled or expanded?

Rebuilding www.yorklib.org got underway almost a year ago. Large portions of the former web site have not been rebuilt and have only "placeholder" segments in the current iteration.

These projects get pushed back in the press of dealing with daily routine and the unplanned "here it is so deal with it now" events that arise every day. The library's Event Calendar at present ends with May, 2010. The last update was the insertion of holiday closings for the next fourteen months, and editing Elmer Baker Display Case and Hall Gallery listings to clear them from those holidays.

Some of the next major collection development efforts for the library involve replacing the V.H.S. collections with DVDs, and similar weed and replace efforts for several other portions of the collection.

The effort to collect and catalog the music published by the J.A. Parks Music Company began over a decade ago. The collection is probably somewhere in the range of 80 - 90 percent; the catalog for the collection has other issues related to the lack of a comprehensive list of music numbers assigned to the sheet music versions of the music. Work on that project advances by fits and jumps prompted by the discovery of additional pieces to add to the collection.
