Honored Presidents

The observation of Presidents' Day holiday came about through a convoluted process that originated from celebrations connected with the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Many of these public holidays are formally observed only by public agencies -- national, state, and local governments. presidents_day

People who do not realize that public library service is a provision of local government are surprised to find the library closed on such holidays.
