"Change and Decay..."

After repeated collisions with snow removal equipment and overnight encounters with folks who wantonly apply brute force to public property, the library's book drop is sprung out of its original shape sufficiently that the door does not work smoothly.
20090326_crumbles This impacts no one but the few members of the library staff who have to unlock and re-lock that door a few times a day. For those select few it is an ongoing annoyance and frustration.

The west side of Kilgore Memorial Library has a staff entry / service door, and parking spaces with no buffer space comparable to the sidewalk and lawn strip on the south side of the building.
Two of the exterior columns on the west side have had encounters with vehicles resulting in broken limestone panels. The damage is cosmetic rather than structural. Another annoyance and frustration.

Any public facility used by dozens or hundreds of people day after day will eventually show physical signs of that use, and the best efforts to keep things clean and in repair cannot cancel the effects of slow erosion and dramatic collisions.
