Measuring success

A few years ago, "LIBRARIES CHANGE LIVES" appeared as a promotional phrase.
If that assertion is valid, the indicators of a library's success will be found in the lives of those who use it, or whose lives are influenced by its presence. A few weeks ago, the story of one life changed by the York Public Library   made the rounds.
Dr. Kilgore's decision  on how to distribute his worldly goods was certainly impacted by the existence of a public library.
Those of us on the "inside" of public libraries think this kind of impact continues today.   But it is up to those who are aware of that impact to share it with the world at large.
